Introduction

From the popular Paris Blockchain Week to CoinDesk’s Consensus, and Istanbul Blockchain Week, there were hundreds (if not thousands) of blockchain events across the globe in 2024. Conferences bring together a diverse mix of people: developers, investors, other projects, potential partners, and the media. These connections can lead to collaborations, funding, talent acquisition, and more.

They also offer a platform to showcase a project (PIVX), attract attention, generate buzz, and build brand awareness.

Judging by archived proposals, PIVX has been sponsoring members to attend some of these events since 2018. But like they say, all animals may be equal, but some are more equal than others. This means that even though there are thousands of crypto conferences annually, PIVX cannot afford to attend all of these conferences due to budget constraints and the cost-benefit ratio.

There is no need to attend an event if the derived benefit is lower than the cost.

Current Cross-Road

There has been a recent suggestion to create a 'Travel and Conference Fund' (TCF). This fund will likely cover travel costs and merchandise, amongst others. Kindly reference this thread to learn more about the discussion. The idea has been highly lauded by forum members. However, rather than jump to start pooling funds immediately, the logical step to take is to create a list of upcoming blockchain events and analyse the cost-benefit ratio.

This proposal is seeking funding to do just that. I must add that the list will not be comprehensive as there are hundreds of smaller events that never get media publicity. “Bigger and expensive doesn’t always mean better.”

Deliverables

If approved, I’ll proceed to curate a list of all the blockchain events scheduled to happen in 2025. These will then be filtered using metrics like the target audience, previous attendance numbers, popularity of the event, cost of participation, region’s receptiveness to crypto, and others.

The deliverable will be a properly written and somewhat comprehensive document containing blockchain conferences in 2025 and tailored to PIVX. It will also include recommendations based on the data I gather.

I must add that, while my document will be as detailed as possible, the onus still rests on those seeking funding to prove that such conferences will be beneficial to PIVX.

Financials

While I cannot fully estimate the scope of the work, I am confident that I’d have something very tangible by the end of 1 cycle. Hence, this proposal will be for one cycle. The community will be notified if there is a need to retain the role or expand the scope of work.

That said, the cost is estimated to be around 4,000 PIV for this “initial” work. I expect this amount to reduce if there is any additional work of this nature.

Just to clarify, I am not doing this for free. However, I appreciate your offer to help.

I believe the offer still stands because you were on my list of persons I'd likely reach out to. I understand you were gunning for the Istanbul conference.

Ah no, actually, I think the Istanbul event is expensive. I had only mentioned that I would support you if you wanted to do this kind of work voluntarily. Of course, everyone's time is important, so I wish you success.

From the little web scraping I have done so far, there are over 200 blockchain events scheduled for 2025. This is compressed list of some of these events. However, my task in this proposal involves digging deep into each of these events. For instance, I could take the US, research all the upcoming events for the region, and assign a "cost-benefit" score based on metrics like the hype around the event, attendance fee, social media buzz, previous performance, and the strength of speakers, among others.

Might as well skip the ones before May 1st, as I doubt we could get funds and team reps etc. ready before then.

This is a great starting list for potential in the future! I appreciate this work but I think everyone got very excited over the idea and missed that it intends to work with our current partners at these events. So by that, we are talking with ie; CoinStore to co-sponsor a booth potentially upcoming. Even if there was no booth to co-sponsor, we could come by and promo at theirs anyway. That is why the fund is meant to be more of a "we paid for this working with X" and be transparent in reporting and costs. If we are looking into events like this we would potentially need even more that we do not have yet some events are 20k for a booth. Booth + Flights + Housing, means we are looking at upwards of 30k for an event. I do not see those as feasible budget-wise to allocate nearly immediately. I love the initiative, but we were a bit away from the original purpose. Building stronger relationships with our partners by being there and physically supporting each other. I will submit a proposal today for the initial top-up of funds and we will start the funding. The idea is we get the funds and some of the current Core who's been a bit more longstanding with the group to hold funds, it's starting small but ideally would be able to absorb one of these larger costs in the future.

Given this insight, I don't think there's a need for this proposal in the short term.

If all of the efforts will be going towards strengthening relationships with existing partners at conferences then there's no need researching existing conferences.

On that note, I'd ask that this proposal is downvoted. Peradventure it passes, I'll transfer the funds to the TCF.
